The creation of my Roman/Italian portfolio has its origins from several sources. I loved Italy before I ever went there. This is because I was raised with Italians in New Jersey and and most of my friends were Italian. I loved their mother's cooking as well as their society in general. I felt attached to Italy early.
Fortunately for me, my mother, Helen, taught me photography before the advent of digital photography when slide firm was used. It took a great deal of concentration to produce a good slide. Although I have digital cameras, most of the photos you see are taken with slide film.
I took a course in Esthetics and Photography at UCSD and we learned that the concept of beauty in Western Civilization is derived from Greek and Roman art. Several weeks after the class, I was in Italy on a photo expedition with my wife, Ann, in the Roman estates, museums and ruins. I was ready for fine photography and many of the photos have been recognized with awards from the Carlsbad/Oceanside Art League, the North County Photography Society, and entered into Gallery 104, Laguna Art Group, Little Italy Artwalk, Del Mar Art and Taste, Hilton on the Bay.
